5 ways to spice up veggie baby purees from 6 months
Once your baby has mastered a variety of single veggie purees in the first 2 weeks of weaning (check out our handy weaning planners for inspiration), you might want to start combining different tastes + textures together to reeeally tickle their tiny taste buds!
What veggie purees can my baby try?
By 6 months, it’s important to offer iron-rich foods, like green veggies + pulses. Vitamin C will help little ones absorb plant-based iron, so try mixing iron-rich foods with citrus fruits.
- Green veggies: green beans, broccoli, courgette, peas
- Pulses: lentils, chickpeas, butter beans, cannellini beans
- Citrus fruits: orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit
Tips on puree texture
Once your baby is used to swallowing a thin puree, usually after a week or two, you can start to offer a thicker but still super smooth texture.
The puree should hold its shape when on a spoon but plop off easily if you give the spoon a flick. You can adjust the thickness of any of our puree recipes but adding more or less liquid.
