Good food is more than just healthier for little ones, it’s good for the planet too!

At Ella’s Kitchen we prioritise the highest quality organic ingredients, promote sustainable farming methods with our farmers + growers, work with partners to reduce our impact on the planet and lots, lots more.

Our farmers + growers

Our incredible suppliers are at the forefront of innovation. We have long-term relationships with our suppliers, who have pioneered sustainable farming initiatives + are always looking to do more. Some of our suppliers even have medicine fields for ‘self-healing’, eco-lodges for chickens + houses for cows to protect them against the elements and keep them healthy + happy!

By committing to working with the best farmers, we’re not only choosing the best quality ingredients for our products but we’re also helping to protect the birds, bees + bugs! Did you know that in organic fields there are 75% more bees + 50% more wildlife? And for every 10% increase in bee-friendly habitats, like those found on organic farms, bee numbers + biodiversity increases by over a third, un-bee-lievable! By removing the use of harmful pesticides, our farmers fields are buzzing with life!

Our packaging

We’re suuuper proud that over 70% of Ella’s Kitchen pouches will be fully recyclable at kerbside by the end of 2024! These pouches have successfully shown to go through the existing UK recycling system, from kerbside collection through to sorting and recycling. This means you can now just put your pouches into your household recycling bin but remember to pop the cap back on!

Developing a fully recyclable pouch has been a long-term project that has involved working with lots of partners like The Flexible Plastic Fund. In 2021 we formed the Flexible Packaging Consortium alongside Nestle, Mars, Taylor’s of Harrogate and Suez to work together and share ideas on how we could increase flexible packaging recycling points in the UK.

In May 2024, our first pouch to move to recyclable packaging was The Green One. Made from a monomaterial, this means that the pouch + cap is now made from the same type of plastic so they can be efficiently sorted and recycled at local recycling centres. Over the next 18 months we’ll be moving our full pasteurised range to monomaterial pouches!

And we have plans to get the remaining 25% of our pouches ready for recycling. This group of pouches require a monomaterial that is suitable for a more intense cooking process to ensure products with meat and other protein sources maintain the same high quality and safety. There currently isn’t a solution but we’re continuing to work with our packaging manufacturers + the Flexible Packaging Consortium to explore potential options, so watch this space!

Our impact

At Ella’s we’ve always been committed to building a better world for little ones + creating a healthier planet. In 2019 we were the first baby food brand to become a B Corp + join over 500 other B Corps in committing to be net zero by 2030. We were also the first baby food brand to set science-based targets which have been approved by Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

But we know our work isn’t done, we believe every little one deserves to grow up happy, healthy and never hungry, and on a planet that has plenty of food and is buzzing with life. That’s why we’re using our voice to stand up for little ones and campaign for real change that will have a lasting, positive impact on future generations to come.

To ensure our work has the greatest impact possible, we are partner with various charities, including the RSPB and Action for Children, to support their work tackling food access, child poverty and the nature crisis. To read all about what we’re doing, check out our Good Stuff We Do report.

Our partners

We’re reeeally proud to be working in partnership with the RSPB to protect the birds, bees and bugs so we can play a part in safeguarding our biodiversity and our food supply for future generations. Through our partnership, we will be working to deliver on an ambitious “30 by 30” wildflower target, which will see us working to protect + restore an area totalling 30 million square feet of nature-rich wildflower and grassland meadows by 2030.
